Teil 3 der "Praktischen Baustatik" vertieft und erweitert die Kenntnisse, die für die Behandlung statisch unbestimmter Tragwerke erforderlich sind. Die ersten Abschnitte sind den Formänderungen und ihrer Berechnung mit Hilfe der Arbeitsgleichung, der Berechnung von Biegelinien sowie der Ermittlung von Einflußlinien für Formänderungen gewidmet. Der vollständig überarbeitete Abschnitt 5 behandelt kinematische Untersuchungen sowie statische und geometrische Bestimmtheit und Unbestimmtheit; außerdem bringt er eine Gegenüberstellung von Kraftgrößen- und Drehwinkelverfahren. Die umfangreichen Abschnitte 6 und 7 sind dem Kraftgrößenverfahren gewidmet: Die Ermittlung der Schnittgrößen und Einflußlinien von einfach und mehrfach statisch unbestimmten Systemen sowie der Reduktionssatz werden abgeleitet und mit Hilfe von vollständig durchgerechneten Zahlenbeispielen erläutert. Eine Neuerung gegenüber der 7. Auflage ist das Arbeiten mit Matrizen, Spaltenvektoren und zweidimensionalen Feldern. Völlig neu gefaßt wurde der Abschnitt 8, der das Drehwinkelverfahren ausführt. Die Beispiele behandeln Last- und Verformungsfälle, und in den Berechnungen werden Matrizen und Spaltenvektoren mitverwendet. Am Schluß des Abschnittes steht eine Einführung in die Berechnung nach Theorie II. Ordnung. Das Verschiebungsgrößenverfahren in Matrizendarstellung - geeignet für programmierbare Rechner und daher vielfach verwendet - ist für Fachwerke im Abschnitt 9, für Stabwerke im neuen Abschnitt 10 erläutert.
